about

Once circa 2010-2013, I was in a bookstore with a Game Boy with a musical tracker called LSDJ, which is like Ableton Live for the Nintendo Game Boy. However, there were people there who didn't know how I could make my own sounds on the game boy! So, to show off what "chiptune" is, I tracked "Frère Jacques" on my old toy.

That gave me an idea: I should made an album of Public Domain covers to celebrate the public domain, because at the time I was sure that copyright would never again expire in the US due to the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act passed in 1998. 20 years later, the same lobbying groups pushing to extend copyright declined to do so, possibly fearing an intense backlash. Since copyright is once again expiring, there was no better time, no better year to release this album than right now!

NOTE: My versions are creative commons BY-NC, even if the source material is in the public domain. If that confused you, consider that Disney's adaptations of public domain stories are copyrighted, and that should clear things right up.

about

Iron Curtain Brooklyn, New York

I make chip music, and am based in Brooklyn, NY, USA. My mother, Dorothy Siegel, did the same back in 1978 (seen here: www.vintagecomputermusic.com ), making me a second generation chip musician. I play the Game Boy with LSDJ, as well as other retro game systems.
